ABOUT SWITCH PT. I

Switch poster with laurels.png

As a minority, Max (Morgan Lee) faces subtle communication issues from the workplace majority and must choose between exploring his own identity or continuing to allow the status quo to dictate who he should be and where he should stand.

Switch was filmed in 2020 during the worldwide pandemic in Portland, Oregon. The short film has been submitted to various festivals and will premiere in 2021.

Director's Biography

D'Vonte Robinson was raised in Montgomery, Alabama, and served 4 1/2 years in the United States Marine Core before moving to Portland, Oregon to pursue a career in film. D'Vonte has worked for the likes of Netflix, Hulu, A24, TBS, and HBO. His work focuses on social and personable narratives that create a compelling and stimulating experience.

Director's Statement

Switch is a product of all the happenings of 2020. From the murder of George Floyd to the pursuing protest that inhabited my city, I felt compelled to make a film that would help bridge the gap between those who are feeling divided and those who are seeking representation.

I felt called upon to create a narrative that explores the topics of being a Black American, what it feels like to exist day-to-day and the communication and perspective of my experience

.

Everything that has happened in this piece has happened to someone or myself. Good and evil are not always considered in some situations, instead, some things just are black and white.

Switch aims to shed light on many conversations and scenarios that can potentially happen to any minority when faced with the majority.
